Tips for Painting Your Home

If the idea of painting your home feels daunting to you or you don't have time to do it on your own, consider hiring exterior painting services.

A great way to freshen up your home and create a new look is to paint the walls a new color. You can brighten up a room, change the mood of an entire space, or match your walls to the new furniture you purchased. It's a relatively inexpensive option that provides the enjoyment of updating your home without breaking the bank.

If you're going to do interior or exterior painting on your own, there are some tips you should know in order to do a job that looks professional. Residential interior painting is often less complicated than painting outside because there are fewer elements to worry about. However, both require some extra and expertise to make sure the finished look is clean, sleek, and presentable.

Wash First
One of the most important things you can do when painting your home is clean the area you're going to paint first. This helps to get rid of any marks that might show through as well as any dirt or grime that could get stuck in the paint. Debris in your paint can cause it to look lumpy and messy rather than having the smooth finish you want. For residential exterior painting, you can rent a pressure washer and power wash the outside of your home. This is the fastest way to get everything clean and you don't have to climb a ladder. On the inside, you can simply wash the walls with hot water and a cleaning agent.

Buy Quality Paint
It might seem like a good idea to take a cheaper route and get low end paint, but you will definitely notice the difference once you get to work. It will take more coats to fully cover a wall and you might not get the finish you really want. It's better to spend a little extra on high quality paint that will make your job easier and will look better. You can also buy low VOC paints that have fewer chemicals in them and are healthier for your family. When paint is stored properly it can last up to five years, so buying quality paint that gets the job done quicker means that you might have extra to store for the future in case you need to do touch-ups.

Protect Your Floors
If you're painting inside you will want to think about protecting your floors. You can buy tarps to lay on the carpet to save it from any paint that drips. You can also buy masking tape that can hold the tarp down along the edges of the wall so no gaps are created. Paint can be really difficult to get off carpet, so this is a wise precaution to take if you're painting in a carpeted room. However, it also saves you from having to clean up messes in rooms with hard floors.

Consider a Professional
If the idea of painting your home feels daunting to you or you don't have time to do it on your own, consider hiring residential painting services. They can help with interior and exterior painting and make sure that it is done correctly. Not only will this make your home look great, but it will save you a lot of time and hassle. You can reach out to a painting service near you to get quotes.
